Paper on consociationalism at the University College London
I presented at the conference „Habsburg Austria’s Consociational Legacies: New Research on Political Representation in Interwar Central Europe“, organised by UCL’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies. My paper “Consociational and non-territorial autonomy legacies in former Habsburg Galicia” analysed Habsburg legacies of non-territorial autonomy in the West Ukrainian Peoples Republic and the Second Polish Republic.
COST Action: Non-Territorial Autonomy
Being the prinicipal investigator of the NTAutonomy ERC project, I joined the European-Union funded COST Action “European Non-Territorial Autonomy Network” as Austria’s Management Committee’s member.
Network meeting in Budapest
I presented the NTAutonomy project at an inveted workshop at CEU. The following day we met with the team of the ERC project NEPOSTRANS – Negotiating post-imperial transitions: from remobilization to nation-state consolidation.
Presentation of my project on refugee crises
At a larger presentation of joint projects between the City of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, I presented the results of my project “Refugee Crises. Nothing New in Austria”.

In the week between 14 and 18 May 2018, there will be a daily five minutes radio broadcast on refugee crises Austria has experienced during the last 300 years. This broadcast draws upon the results of my edited volume “Country of Arrival”.

New book on refugee crises in historical perspective
The collective volume on Austria as a country of arrival in historical perspective was recently published. We gathered eight case studies from three centuries that show how the Habsburg Empire and later the Republic of Austria have dealt with refugees.
