Travel Information
Traffic restrictions on August 28, 2011:
Due to a Cycle Marathon, the road between Soelden and Obergurgl will be completely blocked between 13:00 and 19:30 on that day. Unfortunately, this is the only road which all participants have to take, who come from Innsbruck, or from Germany or Switzerland. Also the Timmelsjoch connecting Suedtirol (Italy) with Obergurgl will be blocked. For more details see

This block will cause delays, which we ask you to consider. Also the bus taking participants from the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof and from the Airport to Obergurgl will leave one hour later than originally planned: The bus will leave the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof at 17:00 (and not at 16:00).
It will leave the Innsbruck Airport at 18:00 (and not at 17:00). We apologize to all participants for this inconvenience, although it will enable a few people to reach the bus, who would have missed it otherwise. Please, do not worry about your dinner. The University Center and the hotels know about this delay.
From Innsbruck Airport to Obergurgl by public transportation:
The airport closest to Obergurgl is Innsbruck Airport, which is served by various airlines. Use the busline F to go to the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), which takes about 16 to 20 minutes. There, take a train (about every hour) to the station Oetztal Bahnhof (47 km, on the main railway line Innsbruck - Landeck - Feldkirch - Zurich). In front of the station Oetztal Bahnhof, on the left-hand side, there is the bus stop for the bus line serving Obergurgl, which is the last stop on that line. The bus takes about one hour to reach Obergurgl.
Detailed time tables for the local trains from Innsbruck to Oetztal and for the bus from Oetztal Station (Bahnhof) to Obergurgl are provided below.
From Munich by train:
If you arrive in Munich or Salzburg, take a train to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof and from there continue to Ötztal Bahnhof and Obergurgl as indicated above.
Arrival by car:
Leave the motorway A12 (Autobahn Innsbruck - Arlberg - Feldkirch - Zurich) at the exit Ötztal. Follow route B186 in the direction of Kühtai. Going South along the Ötztal and passing the towns Längenfeld, Sölden and Zwieselstein, you will arrive in Obergurgl. Please note also the traffic restrictions due to the Cycle Marathon indicated above.
In Obergurgl, the final bus stop is close to the church and in
front of the Piccard memorial (a big balloon). Continue along
the main road by passing the Hotel Edelweiss & Gurgl and the
Hotel Jenewein. Keep left and follow the street uphill to reach the stone houses of the University Centre.Bus transfer on Sunday, August 28, 2011:
A special bus transfer from Innsbruck Airport and from the Innsbruck main railway station (Hauptbahnhof) to Obergurgl will be provided on Sunday afternoon. The bus will leave from the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) at 17:00 (5 PM) and from the Innsbruck International Airport at 18:00 (6 PM). If you want to use this bus, please send an email to
Harald.Posch@univie.ac.at, giving your flight number and arrival time, and mention it in your registration. Please note that the departure times of the bus have changed by 1 hour.If you take the bus from the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (Main Station), you will find our bus not on the side of the Main Hall of the station, but on the other side. Use the tunnel at the station, which provides access to the platforms, and follow the sign "Verladebahnhof". It will lead you to the bus stop for our bus. (On the square in front of the main entrance of the station there are only terminals for city buses and local buses). Our bus will carry a sign indicating "Obergurgl" and "University Centre". Before leaving, the driver will also come to the INFO POINT in the Main Hall of the Station to meet you, if you decide to wait there.
A similar transfer will be available for the return journey on Friday afternoon, September 2, 2011. The bus should reach the Innsbruck airport before 15:30.

From Obergurgl to Innsbruck (Hauptbahnhof)
Explanation:
1st column: Departure time from Innsbruck (Hauptbahnhof - Main Station). Please, check the computer screens for the proper platform. Not all trains leave from the same platform.
2nd column: Information on the type of train.
S .. Schnellbahn (a local train with frequent stops).
REX .. Regional Express; RJ .. Railjet; IC or OIC .. Intercity;
EC or OEC .. Eurocity.3rd column: Top left: Arrival time at Oetztal Bahnhof. It takes about 1 to 2 minutes to walk to the bus stop on the square in front of the railway station. When you arrive by train from Innsbruck, you have to use the underpass. Bottom right: Departure time of the bus to Obergurgl (bus Nr. 4194).
4th column: Arrival time in Obergurgl. Please follow the directions given above to reach the University Center.
5th column: Total travel time.
6th column: täglich: daily. Mo - Fr: Monday to Friday. Mo - Sa: Monday to Saturday. Sa: on Saturday. So: on Sunday. You may ignore a and b.
