My esteemed colleagues Johann Kirchknopf, Stefan Ossmann and Franz X. Eder organize a workshop in order to present research projects from the social and cultural sciences, and humanities and discuss theoretical as well as practical questions pertaining to research on sexualities. They have kindly invited me to give a paper on “Sexuality in the context of disciplinary procedures of Austrian government employees”. I will elaborate on how and in how far the state as employer interferes with the private lives of its employees and how sexuality is discussed in disciplinary procedures. Based on my preliminary research this has to do either with sexual violence or with somewhat indecent relationships (promises to marry that were not kept, extramarital relationships, including homosexual relations), especially when such relationships became known to the public, caused scandals and, thus, did damage to the reputation of civil service.
