Yesterday I had the pleasure to meet Karl Megner in person. Being the author of the seminal works “Beamte. Wirtschafts- und sozialgeschichtliche Aspekte des k.k. Beamtentums” (Wien 1985) and “Beamtenmetropole Wien 1500-1938: Bausteine zu einer Sozialgeschichte vorwiegend im neuzeitlichen Wien” (Wien 2010), he can rightfully be referred to as a living legend in my particular field of research, the history of Austrian public employees. The liveliness of this legend will manifest itself in the form of quite tangible plans for research cooperation concerning the transformation of the Austrian state administration. I will keep you posted about the progress of these plans – stay tuned!
