project: “Jewish Representation and Antisemitism in the Upper Chamber of the Austrian Imperial Assembly 1861 to 1918”

Sept. 2010 to Oct. 2011: Project team member (IPW), project leader: Eva Kreisky
(financed by: Jubiläumsfonds der Österreichischen Nationalbank; Zukunftsfonds der Republik Österreich)

The project investigated Jewish political participation and representation as well as manifestations of antisemitism in the Upper Chamber of the Austrian parliament between 1861 and 1918. Biographies and political activity of those members, who belonged to the Jewish community at the time of birth, were researched and archived. Additionally, their parliamentary practices as well as their confrontations with and reactions to antisemitism in the plenum were scrutinized in a discourse-analysis of parliamentary session protocols.
