Born 21-02-47 in Vienna, Austria; married since 1973 (Mag. Angelika Weichhart), two children (son Andreas, born in 1985, and daughter Barbara, born in 1987).

Scientific career:
 

1967–1973:                   Study of Geography, German, and Philosophy at the University of Salzburg, Austria

1973:                            Graduation and conferment of the doctor’s degree (title of the doctoral thesis: “Methodological Problems in Geography. A Contribution to the Assessment of the Position of Complex Geography.”)

1986:                            Conferment of the postdoctoral lecturing qualification (title of the habilitation treatise: “Residential Preferences in the City of Salzburg”)

1989:                            Appointment as regular member of the Deutsche Akademie für Landeskunde (German Academy for Regional Science)

1993:                            Conferment of the title of "Außerordentlicher Universitätsprofessor" (associate professor)

1997–2004:                   Member of the editorial board of the journal "Ethics, Place and Environment"

1998 - 2005:                  Member of the "Scientific Advisory Board" of the Akademie für Raumforschung und Landesplanung, Hannover, Germany (ARL – Academy for Regional Science and Regional Planning)

Methodology and philosophy of geography, research on housing and migration, behavioural geography and mental-map research, human ecology, urban geography, social and economic geography, theory of man-environment relations, regional science and regional development, spatial planning, action theory, research on territoriality and place identity, residential multilocality.

198 publications, among them 7 books (monographs) as single author and 6 monographs as co-author, 3 publications in print.
