Triangular Billiard with Gravity and Thermostats:
A point mass m is started at some point along the periphery of
a triangular stadium. Under the action of a gravitational potential it
describes a parabolic path until it collides elastically with one
of the walls.
Compass plot:
the points are (vx, vy); in contrast to the Bunimovich Billiard the modulus of v
may change due to the action of gravity and thermostats
Poincaré plot:
q ... point of reflexion along contour, counting from bottom center and normalized by
the circumference L=3
phi ... angle btw velocity after reflection at q and the local normal vector (pointing inside)
Note: when changing parameters "on the fly", first STOP the Applet,
then hit Enter.
