Uninstalling Ancient Versions of RExcel and the R/Scilab (D)COM Server
If you have an ancient installation of RExcel (from
the RAndFriends installer, the (D)COM package, or the RExcelInstaller
package), you will need to uninstall the Excel Add-In and the (D)COM
package before installing the newer version. Ancient means an
RExcel older than 3.0.0. To find out: Open Excel and click on the
RExcel > About RExcel
menu item. If
the version is 3.0.0 or larger, then you do not have to do the
uninstall step.
If you determine that you must uninstall the ancient version,
- For Excel 2003 and earlier (with the Add-In installed), start Excel and go to
Tools > Add-Ins
and uncheck the checkbox next to the entry RExcel. Close Excel. - For Excel 2007 (with the Add-In installed), start Excel and go to
Office Button > Excel Options > Add-Ins > Go…
and uncheck the checkbox next to the entry RExcel2007. Close Excel. - Remove old programs using Control Panel.
- Open the Windows XP Add or Remove Programs window with
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
- Open the Windows Vista Programs and Features window with
Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Installed Programs
- Remove any of the following:
- RDACCSD
- (D)COM Server
- R/Scilab…
This completes the uninstall. After this, you can install the current version of RAndFriends.
Machines with Multiple Users
It is possible that a user other than the Administrator will receive conflict messages about earlier versions of RExcel even after a correct uninstallation of the older version and installation of the new version. The repair for each user so affected is the following:
- For Excel 2003 and earlier (with the Add-In installed), start Excel and go to
Tools > Add-Ins
and uncheck the checkbox next to any of the entries with RExcel as the beginning part of the name and also any entries associated with a directory of the formc:/Program Files/R/(D)COM…
. It will tell you it can't find the ones that are no longer present and offer to remove them from the list. Accept the offer. Then check the RExcel entry that is still there. Close Excel. - For Excel 2007 (with the Add-In installed), start Excel and go to
Office Button > Excel Options > Add-Ins > Go…
and uncheck the checkbox next to any of the entries with RExcel as the beginning part of the name and also any entries associated with a directory of the formc:/Program Files/R/(D)COM…
. It will tell you it can't find the ones that are no longer present and offer to remove them from the list. Accept the offer. Then check the RExcel2007 entry that is still there. Close Excel.
