Our two Starting points are: (1) Even small kids use media or are exposed to media – and we are talking about 3-6 years old kids. (2) Learning to deal with media is something that requires education and that is done by the kids themselves.

These problems are discussed under the headline [] literacy in general and in media literacy theories in particular. Thus we wanted to develop methods to teach media literacy in the kindergarten. This development was the first part of the project, and I'm not going to talk about that today.

In the second part of the project we tried to contribute to the theory of media use by children by reconstructing the kids perspective in a qualitative study.

Our research problem here is, that there are different theories that might be applied to understand actions of children in the context of media. Two of these theories are the theory of [] media generations and the theory [] of the media habitus. Or research question is: Which of these theories is more suitable to understand children using media.

Thus I would like to introduce the theories first..
