The iPhone - project has been created by Beat Döbeli. Responsible Teachers are Christian and Gisela Neff. Participants are 17 Students of a 5th grade, which are about 11 years old. It is a Two year pilot project. Personal smartphone (Apple iPhone 3G) were provided in fall 2009. The children can take the smartphones home and use them outside school after an eight week introductionary phase. All services free of charge.

Before the projet a preperation phase took place:

The confidence of the school authorities and the involved parents was gained.
There wasn't much project-specific preperatin in the classroom since the involved teacher is the local school ICT manager and thus an expert in the field.
No special deployment software or internet filtering was installed.

The introduction phase emphasises on prevention. Students developed a written agreement with rules for the use of their smartphones in and out of school (Neff 2009).
