Like every semester, we are inviting to the Gender Gala!
Movie-Screening “Pride” with discussion afterwards
“With whom forming alliances and against what?”, a question that’s today as important for left-wing groups as it was twenty years ago; the relationship between queer theory, intersectionality and identity politics is an ambivalent one.
The movie “Pride” (2014) examines this question through the story of a gay-lesbian activist group from London who are supporting the strike of welsh miners in 1984 as their enemy is the same: Margaret Thatcher. So the city meets the countryside, bohemian kids meet workers, homos meet heteros and prejudices meet solidarity.
We are inviting very warmly to watch “Pride” together before discussing in a comfortable atmosphere the relationship of identity and solidarity.
The event is an initiative of the research group Gender and Politics at the IPW. Cinema-snacks and drinks will be served to end the evening in a relaxed way and give the possibility to talk to and get to know other students (Bachelor, Master, PhD) and teachers interested in the subject.
