Black-backed jackals (Canis mesomelas)


Black backed jackals are small, reddish brown to ginger canids of Southern Africa. They are extremely flexible and inhabit almost every environment in Southern Africa, from suburbs of large cities to deserts. Black backed jackals live in monogamous pairs wich mate for life, they are often found in family groups. They are highly social, subadults often stay with their parents to help raise younger cubs.
These animals eat almost everything edible, they are omnivorous; a big part of food consitst of samll mammals (mice etc.).

Namibia

Namibia is situated in the south west of Africa. A major part of the country consits of desert, the density of inhabitants is very low (about 2 inhabitants/ square kilometer). The Capital of Naimiba is Windhoek, official language is English, besides of indigenous languages Afrikaans, Dutch and German is spoken (until 1915, Namibia was the german protectorat German South West Africa). Today, Namibia is a stable democracy and a highly modern country, tourism is a major money source for the country.
