In July 2008 the first Mongolia-based international summer school on astronomy will be organized at the National University of Mongolia (NUM) in Ulaanbaatar. The school will take place at the NUM over a week between July 21 and July 26. The lecturers are professional astronomers from several countries. Though this school focuses on the development of astronomy in Mongolia, participants from all nationalities are welcome to attend the school. The lectures will be given in English. Registration is free of charge for everyone (maximum 50 participants), but local students are responsible for their own accommodation and transport.

Subsequent to the school in Ulaanbaatar, the participants and the lecturers will have the opportunity to travel to the west of the country (Khovd province), from where a total eclipse can be viewed on August 1, 2008. More lectures will be given in Khovd.

This summer school has financial support from the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
