Thomas a Kempis, Imitatio Christi. Manuscript, Augsburg, 1463-1470
The Imitatio Christi has been variously ascribed
amongst others to Jean Gerson, Geert Groote, and Bonaventura. The colophon
of the manuscript designates Thomas a Kempis (ca.1380-1471) from the monastery
of Mount St. Agnes (near Zwolle) as the author. As such it belongs to a
group of four, almost identical, manuscripts from the Augsburg area, and
it is assumed that the Zainer edition (shortly before 1472; see no 31)
goes back to this version.
