Premetro

Length of premetro tunnel: 2.1 miles, travel time in tunnel: 3-6 mins, depending on the line.
6 stations, of which 2 are interchange stations with the S-Bahn and 1 with the metro.

Construction started in 1957, 1st section opened in 1959, completed in 1969.

Standard platform length: 70 m.
Rolling stock used: A (Line 65), B (Line 6), E (Line 62), E1 (Lines 18, 62, 65), E2 (Lines 6, 18, 65). Also used by local train Wien-Baden (WLB).

Line 6: Burggasse, Stadthalle - Simmering, Grillgasse
Line 18: Burggasse, Stadthalle - Schlachthausgasse
Line 62: Kärntner Ring, Oper - Lainz, Wolkersbergenstrasse
Line 65: Kärntner Ring, Oper - Stefan-Fadinger-Platz, Eisring Süd
WLB: Wien, Oper - Baden, Josefsplatz

The Stations:

Südtiroler Platz: ("South Tyrol Square") - Station opened in 1959. Square named in memory of the loss of the South Tyrol (which used to be a part of Austria) after World War I.

Blechturmgasse: ("Metal Tower Lane") - Station opened in 1969. The street name refers to a former inn which had a little tower on its roof.

Laurenzgasse: ("St Laurence Lane") - Station opened in 1969. Street name refers to the former village Laurenzergrund, an area owned by the monastery of St Laurence.

Kliebergasse: Station opened in 1969. Street named after the sculptor Josef Klieber (1773-1850).

Matzleinsdorfer Platz: Station opened in 1969. The former village of Matzleinsdorf is nowadays part of Vienna's 5th district.

Eichenstrasse: ("Oak Street") - Station opened in 1969. Street named to commemorate an oak tree to which pictures of Saints had been attached.
