From my referrer logs

It's always interesting to see what people were looking for on some search engine before they were directed to my site. Sometimes these are just bizarre (Disturbing Search Requests thrives on that sort of thing), sometimes they're just instructive.

Here's a list of the things that people search for most frequently before being sent to my weblog (as of October 14th, 2002). The list is roughly ordered by frequency.

  1. Windows XP Product Keys. By far the most frequent search term. More than 10 people per day are looking for Microsoft product keys on my website. I don't have any, but I'm the #7 search result on Google for "winxp key", which doesn't help. The situation has improved somewhat since Google includes the phrase "I am a Mac user" in the search result.

  2. Nude pictures of Ellen Feiss. Jesus, I mean, she's only just fifteen, so please give her a break. The only nude pictures you'll find of her are doctored with Photoshop anyway. Apparently even being the wacky type of Internet celebrity doesn't save you from having a tribe of neolithic testosterone-driven males drool over you.

  3. Pictures of women wearing overalls. Seems I hit a nerve there with my article on overalls back in August. While I cannot offer any pictures, I still have two or three visitors per day who are looking for this kind of thing.

  4. Information on Saddam Hussein's doubles. Professor Buhmann's study on Saddam's doubles seems to interest quite a few people. The search request "Buhmann Saddam" is also interesting, as "Buhmann" is German for "scapegoat", giving the whole thing an interesting twist.

  5. Various penis-related queries. This has to do with the postings in which I made fun of a spammer who wanted to sell me medication for penis enlargement. These queries range from the interesting to the absurd. I don't really want to post all of them here so as not to attract even weirder search results, but "penis colors" was one of the better ones. Others can be found at the DSR website.

This page will be updated should any new interesting trends emerge.
