Hennies is mostly right in his judgement on the quality of political elite. His insights, however, far from being new can be seen as the logical consequence of the development and the growing importance of mass media for politics as described by Noam Chomsky in the 80s. The changes in the media and the changes in the ways people make up their political minds have lead to politics being split into power distribution among the elite and "communication", i.e. selling a party or a candidate to the public by means of the advertising business. Lamenting the dwindling morale of elite members changes nothing, as long as they are not being challenged by political forces alien to the political PR game. Unfortunately, the evolution of the European green parties shows that they actually had to join the game in order to be elected in the first place.
