Raum als pädagogische Dimension?
– Untersuchungen am Joachimsthalschen Gymnasium
Space as a
dimension of education?
Summary: In
the current literature about the relationship of pedagogy and space (The German
article uses the word „Raum“ which means “space” as well as “room”.), it is
often speculated about the effects of the spatial dimension.
It is oftentimes not difficult to
reconstruct the intention of the building and the effect assumed by the
designer. But it is more problematic to
say something about the actual effects of the pedagogical space, which is
constructed with a specific educational intention. In the worst case, the
difference between assumed and actual effects is ignored, so that the first is
taken for the second.
This essay deals with the question
which possibilities are thinkable to determine long-term pedagogical effects of
the dimension of space and also examines the boundaries of these possibilities
with having a look at the Joachimsthalsche Gymnasium in Templin.
