I studied history and Russian in Vienna, Paris and Moscow. In 2008, I received my PhD in a joint doctoral programme from the Universities of Vienna and Paris Sorbonne.
My research focus is on Central and Eastern Europe between the late 18th and the 20th Century, the Habsburg Empire, Poland, Ukraine and the Soviet Union in particular. I am interested in the history of nationalism, borders, and languages, as well as in urban and Jewish history.
I am currently an APART research fellow at the Institute for Modern and Contemporary Historical Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. My habilitation project deals with the idea and the translation of concepts of non-territorial autonomy from the Habsburg Empire until the interwar period.
