Astro-ph lunch

News

Dec/22/2011
The next session will be held on January 11th as I suppose that one week before a significant fraction of usual participants will not be at the institute.

I wish you all an enjoyable Christmas time among your nearest and dearest and a happy and successful new year!

Nov/25/2011
Please note, that the session on wednesday, dec 14 will be canceled. Exactly at that time the PhD defense of our colleague Claudia Paladini takes place and all of us would like to attend. Thus, come to the main lecture hall on wednesday, dec 14, at 12pm.

As has been discussed in a previous meeting we will exploit the capabilities and opportunities of Vox Charta. Please register there, get your account confirmed by our local administrator Helmut Dannerbauer, and propose a paper you'd like to discuss during our next session.

Rationale

The astro-ph lunch is aimed at gathering motivated astrophysicists in Vienna to discuss interesting new papers from astro-ph. Participants are encouraged to present a paper they deem interesting and to initiate a discussion on methods and results described. It is favourable to have just a few minutes long presentation of the paper where you summarize the main statements. Both theoretical and observational papers are welcome.

We'd like to combine serious business with culinary experience and thus call for pizzas from our dependable delivery man. Therefore, if you don't take a share in a particular paper, you can just lean back and enjoy your pizza.

Setting

Every interested person (undergraduate or graduate student, PhD student, postdoc, guest, professor, ...) is invited to join us every wednesday at 12:00 pm in Seminar Room 2 (room 008.5, ground floor, institute layout) to discuss papers and share pizzas.

Pizza orders & paper suggestions

The suggestions of papers we have "outsourced" to Vox Charta. We kindly ask you to propose a paper only on that website and/or vote for other suggested papers. If you have questions on how to deal with Vox Charta or if you face any problems with this tool, please feel free to contact our local administrator Helmut Dannerbauer. He set up the account for our institute on the website of Vox Charta and is familiar with all facets of this tool. You can click the following button to be forwarded to the website of Vox Charta:

For ordering a pizza you are encouraged to use the form below. Please place your orders before wednesday 10:30 am such that the pizzas will be delivered right in time. One slice is defined to be one quarter of a whole pizza. Hence, if you like to have one entire pizza, you must order 4 slices. Your entries will then appear in the table below the form.

Reminder

Would you like to be reminded of this weekly seminar? If so, drop me an e-mail with the subject field left unchanged (mail content isn't necessary, but I will be happy about a few friendly lines;-). You will then receive a reminder, say, one day before the session.
