Here you can read what some of them said:
"... I have tested several shareware programs also on my
desktop PC, but Your program is more complete than all of them
together! ..."
--- Sjon M., USA, 10/1996
"Ich benutze Urania/48 regelmäßig, um auf die
Schnelle Planetenpositionen etc. zu errechnen und auf einen Blick
parat zu haben - anstatt jedesmal umständlich ein PC-Programm
anzuwerfen und die relevanten Informationen erst mühsam
herauszuklauben und zusammenzustellen."
("I use Urania/48 regularly to quickly find planet positions etc
and have them all at a glance - without having to boot up the PC and
search for the relevant information at many places.")
"Thank you once more, I am really impressed by Your program"
---Johann D., Germany, 04/1997
"Hi Georg, I am calling by cell phone, right now standing here beside
my car. I have my telescope [Telemator, 63mm refractor] aligned by the
sun's coordinates that I got from your program and now I have just
found Arcturus, Vega, and Deneb [in bright daylight]! It's simply
great!..."
--- Frederic A., Vienna, calling some Saturday
afternoons in spring 1997
"Urania/48 is my window and passport to the stars and planets even during
daylight time!"
--- Frederic A., 09/1999
Looks like you have realized the dream that I have had ever since I found
out the formulae for calculating planetary positions were easily accessible.
I congratulate you on a well done program.
--- Wesley K., 08/1999
"I admire your Urania/48 very much [...] I got a copy
of the book "Practical Astronomy for Your Calculator" back in 1982 and wrote
an Astronomy program in Basic on my 16K TRS80 computer....remember them? My
program wasn't any where as sophisticated as yours but it does make me
appreciate the amount of work you did in yours."
"Great stuff!"
--- Frank K., Australia, 10/1999
There is a nice application of Urania for sailors still using Celestial
Navigation, mainly for those who use the method, which devised
Capt. Thomas Sumner in 1837, and is called after him "Sumner lines of position".
(BTW, this method was in 1875 improved much by Marcq St. Hilaire).
Basically, this method starts from a guessed position, and then finds the
true position by the intersection of two or more of the cited above lines of
position. To draw these lines, one needs both the Altitude, and Azimuth
of the observed objects.
Now rather than making a lot of table lookups
in Astronomical Almanacs and doing lots of boring calculations, one could
use the handy HACLK tool of Urania, which in "real time" gives straightforward
all needed values. Start the HP 49G, key in the values for guessed position,
choose the object to observe with R.A., and declination, and fire HACLK!
Don't forget about precise time, and all the nice
correction terms which need to be applied to the observed Altitude :-)
--- Ralf F., Germany, 03/2000
"I bought the 48 on the assumption that I could buy a Celestial Navigation Pac (from Sparcom) which
contained an Almanac. But they no longer have representatives in this country. When I came across
Urania/48 I was overjoyed - all my Christmases were coming at once. I'd be able to take my
calculator into the desert and leave my printouts of rise/transit/set for the main sky objects at
home."
---Max A., Australia, 06/2000
"... IT'S AWESOME! I love it! It's exactly what I've been seeking! I tell you again thanks for
a great program."
--- John A. P., USA, 09/2000
"While I don't yet fully understand much of the data it is supplying me (I am
retired and just learning something of astronomy), I certainly am impressed
by the Urania package."
--- Boswell B., USA, 01/2001
"... ach ja, ich glaube ich habe das Programm noch gar nicht gelobt, also das ist ein SUPER
Programm, das düfte aber klar sein, sonst hätte ich es ja nicht gekauft" :-)
("... and yes, by the way, I did not tell you how much I like the program, it's simply
superb, but this is obvious or I would not have bought it" :-)
--- Michael N., Austria, 04/2001
"... Your program is so good it has saved my HP49 from disuse. Because of its keyboard,
I've had to use my old HP48SX for work. [...] Now I have a marvellous use
for the 49!"
"Urania is the best reason I have for possessing a HP49!"
--- Robert C., Melbourne, Australia
"I thank you a lot that you have made this program, I love Urania."
--- José Miguel H., Republica Dominicana, 12/2003
"The scope & extent of your Urania V 2.1 software is vast & the concept is
remarkably unique in that you have successfully put the ocean (Practical
Astronomy) in a cup (Calculator) which anyone can carry anywhere, anytime and
drink (enjoy) to one's heart's content. Apart from the business angle it is a
service to the humanity at large be it a Master,an Amateur or the common
folk. It has no substitute. Take it outdoors, watch the sky & compare with the
results. Please accept my compliments for your efforts."
"I dare not judge Urania's worth, it is invaluable."
--- Jagdish Y., Delhi, India, 07/2005
"Congratulations for your excellent site Urania and the many subjects
covered. It really helps HP calculator users in all fields of research."
--- Salvo De Meis, Italy, 10/2007
