I have been interested in astronomy and space exploration since about 1980. In 1988, I became assistant guide at Vienna Urania public observatory, 1996-2001 I was regular guide there about three nights per month, weather permitting. My current interests in astronomy are archeo- and ethnoastronomy, history of astronomy, calendars and old books. You can see a first attempt of creating a 19th-century style illustration above. (Yes, it's handmade, printed, not computer generated.)
In 1994 I started programming a major astronomical software package for HP pocket calculators, Urania.
In 1996, I participated at ESO's "Astronomy On-Line" event. See my entries for that here.
On 1999-Aug-11, of course, there was the Total Solar Eclipse in Austria. I observed it at the WAA site in Neutal/Burgenland. Unfortunately, we were partially clouded out. However, my report is available here in PDF format and online. The latter is an automated translation, but I put some of my photos inside (Section titled "Das Ereignis"). It is in german.
In June 2001, members of WAA went to southern Africa (Namibia, Botswana, Zambia) to chase the Moons's shadow. I was member of this great tour. Read the WAA report (english!)

Seit 1980 interessiere ich mich für Astronomie und Raumfahrt. 1988-1996 war ich als Assistent an der Urania-Sternwarte in Wien tätig, 1996-2001 war ich Vortragender. Ich interessiere mich hauptsächlich für alte und fremdländische Weltbilder sowie, damit verbunden, alte astronomische Bücher. Ein erster Versuch, die Illustrationen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert nachzumachen, ist oben zu sehen. (Aqua Tinta Radierung, keine Computertricks!) Auch das Kalenderwesen zählt zu meinen Interessen.
Seit 1995 gibt es mein astronomisches Softwarepaket für HP-Taschenrechner, Urania.
1996 nahm ich mit zwei Projekten an der Veranstaltung "Astronomy On-Line" der Europäischen Südsternwarte (ESO) teil.
Seit Ende 1998 bin ich Mitglied der Wiener Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Astronomie (WAA).
Mein Bericht zur Totalen Sonnenfinsternis 1999-Aug-11, beobachtet am WAA-Platz in Neutal/Burgenland: Im PDF-Format oder online mit Photos. Im Juni 2001 fuhren einige WAA-Mitglieder und Freunde ins südliche Afrika (Namibia, Botswana, Sambia), um die Totale Sonnenfinsternis am 21.6.2001 zu beobachten. Ich war dabei, hier der WAA-Bericht.
Im Juli 2002 nahm ich an der WAA-Reise zur Hakos-Farm nach Namibia teil. Hier einige Photos.
Von Dezember 2002 bis Mai 2003 konstruierte ich ein altes astronomisches Instrument: ein Astrolabium.
2005 konnte ich die Ringförmige Sonnenfinsternis in Libyen beobachten.
Auch 2006 war ich bei der Finsternisreise der WAA nach Libyen dabei. Hier mein Bildbericht (englisch).
